Meet the Team – Head of Warehouse and Logistics

In the third of our meet the team series, we are chatting to our Head of Warehouse and Logistics – Marty Duggan

How long have you worked with AH?

I am now in my 15th year at Alternative Heat, starting in as a yard operative then moving to Warehouse, progressing through various roles to my current position today as Head of Warehouse and Logistics.

What changes have you seen within Alternative Heat over the years?

It’s safe to say I’ve witnessed the evolution of the company! The growth has been phenomenal, we had 6 office staff when I started and we now operate with over 200 employees. Not a year has passed were we haven’t expanded or extended our office, operation and storage facilities. As you can imagine many diversifications, changes and challenges have been overcome to get to where we are today, but some things have never changed, the progressive and innovative nature to continually improve everything we do, to deliver consistently to our clients, exemplifying the core values the company is based on.

Tell me about a typical week?

Always start each day with the early morning coffee at the desk! Then as the Warehouse team begin to filter in, we have the morning briefing of what is taking place that day.

As we specialise in offsite prefabrication 90% of all materials for our work are processed through our warehouse logistically and systematically so its always a busy area within the company. Likewise with goods out, we manage and process a substantial inventory of underfloor and biomass stock that services a vast Trade network across the UK and Ireland.

We source, procure and maintain a large vehicle and plant fleet, basically responsible for anything with wheels and recently are embracing the transition to Net Zero Carbon with the acquisition of EV-Van and all electric forklifts.

For everything to run smoothly we check in closely with other departments across the company with a strong mutual cooperative effort to ensure we can maximise our efficiency.

What is the best thing about your job?

From a company prospective – the continual aspiration and drive to be ahead of the game, the forward thinking and innovation to be the market leader in whatever field we diversify into and also the respect and trust given to get on with your work how you see fit. From my own prospective – always has been and probably always will be our people and the teamwork they provide to get the work done. You are nothing without your teams and the roles they play, providing an environment where you come to work with a smile on your face and where they can have the support and confidence to develop and progress in their own roles. It’s a wonderful thing to see!
