Education and Route into Engineering:

I left school at an early age without much formal education and went straight into working on production and assembly lines. This developed into configuring lines for production runs and I really enjoyed learning the engineering processes the job involved. From this I began to undertake relevant training and courses to build my skills and experience and I subsequently worked as a CNC programmer for over 10 years before joining Alternative Heat.

Current Role and Responsibilities:

I manage the steel input at one of our production facilities, supplying 3No. production lines with raw material, ensuring all specifications and size tolerances are adhered and that the production line are kept moving.

Thoughts on Current Role:

I enjoy my role within the company and take pride in doing the job right. Alternative Heat has been great in supplying me with all the tools, support and training I need. They have fantastic facilities and there’s always someone there to lend a hand when you need it.

Career Development:

I’m always open to new challenges and believe that within a growing company like Alternative Heat, my previous experience, training and willingness to develop as a person will all come in useful for career and role progression within the company.

Advice to others embarking on a career in engineering:

I can never understand why there aren’t more women in engineering, and think anyone looking for a career should give it a go, it gives great job satisfaction and every day is enjoyable when you work with good people and on interesting and diverse projects.
