Project Overview

Alternative Heat were engaged by NHS Ayrshire and Arran to provide a new 1.5MW Biomass Energy Centre for University Hospital Ayr. The project required a solution which would deliver dependable and sustainable heat provision and enable full on-site integration with the existing heating network.

In delivering this project, Alternative Heat undertook full design responsibility for the prefabricated 1.5MW Energy Centre, associated energy centre compound and district heating pipework connections to the existing hospital plantroom.

The energy centre design comprised 2No 12.5m x 4.5m modules to house the main biomass plant, BMS controls and district pump sets, with a smaller 9m x 4.5m module fixed to the side of the main plantroom to house the fill and spill pressurisation plant for the energy centre.

Full in-house design calculations and Revit 3D modeling enabled an integrated approach to all aspects of design and build, enabling the onsite civils and offsite fabrication programmes to run concurrently, vastly reducing the overall project programme.
