Project Overview

Girdwood Community Hub project evolved from an innovative proposal to transform part of Girdwood Park in Belfast into a state-of-the-art hub offering first class leisure and community facilities.

Alternative Heat were employed to be part of this innovative build and to design, supply, install and commission the Ground Source Heat Pump along with the Underfloor Heating system.

The heating system for the Ground Source Heat Pump comprised of 2No. 90kW, 400V heat pumps, while the ground collector encompasses 6000m² of horizontal collectors linked to a 3200m of vertical borehole collectors. The collector system was designed to utilise the available horizontal space onsite, in line with the additional borehole array to integrate the most economically viable collector system for the heat pumps.

The pipework was designed and installed via a reverse return configuration to help balance the temperature throughout the collector and enhance the seasonal COPs of the system.
