Project Overview

Fettes College is a leading co-educational boarding and day school situated in the heart of Edinburgh. Fettes has a reputation for excellent academic results, the highest levels or pastoral care and a proud sporting tradition.

Alternative Heat were appointed to design, supply, install and commission a Ground Source Heat Pump system consisting of 2,800m of vertical boreholes linked to a 120kW heat pump system for the new teaching blocks.

As part of its heating upgrade, Alternative Heat designed the new system to serve Phase 1 of the college, supplying and installing 2No. 60kW, 400V heat pumps connected to a 2,500L buffer tank.

The borehole array was modelled via GLD software to enable the demonstration of ground temperatures throughout a 25 to 50 year operation.
