The Skainos project was a flagship redevelopment scheme situated in East Belfast. The project was designed to provide much needed community facilities in an historical area of the city.

The Newtownards Road front of the development will feature new retail and commercial office space. Inside and fronting to the square houses the work of East Belfast Mission, including youth, family services and counselling as well as a community hall and auditorium. Alternative Heat were the nominated specialist renewable sub-contractor to Stothers M&E on this prestigious development and were awarded "Best Community Award" for this project.

The installations comprised of a Solar Thermal System, one of the largest solar thermal installations in Northern Ireland, consisting of 160m² of evacuated tube panels on six blocks. A 300kW biomass boiler was also installed to satisfy the base load of the heating in a centralised energy plant. Along with this, 1100m² of Underfloor Heating was also supplied and installed by Alternative Heat.
