Solar Water Heating

Solar irradiation Map of UKThe sun radiates enormous amounts of energy to the earth.Unbelievable as it may sound, in Ireland we receive on average per year as much as 60% of that received on the equator. Solar thermal collectors transform direct and diffuse solar radiation into useful heat.

Solar systems are particularly attractive as you can almost completely shut down your boiler during the summer months as the solar can provide up to 95% of the hot water requirement during this period.

A properly designed solar system can provide up to 70% of your annual hot water requirements. For most domestic installations the system is designed to heat hot water only, but more advanced systems are available for heating, pre-heating and east/west applications.

The collectors are usually positioned on a south facing roof and connected to a solar cylinder using stainless steel pre-insulated pipework. A solar pump station and controller co-ordinates the operation and delivers heat automatically to the cylinder using a special solar coil.
