Renewable Heat Incentive

The DECC - Department for Energy and Climate Change announced in the 1st February blueprint proposals for the new Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI). The scheme is due to commence April 2011 however it also states that it will allow "eligible installations completed after 15 July 2009" to apply. The scheme proposes to make payments to householders for every Kwh generated by a renewable heating product such as a ground source heat pump or pellet boiler. You can download the Consulation on the proposed RHI financial support scheme Here .

HOW THIS COULD WORK FOR YOU

With an average detached dwelling of 250 square meters with a heatloss of 60 watts per square meter we would propose installing a 15kw heat pump to satisfy the heating demand.

If this heat pump operates for 14 hrs per day on an average heating year containing 220 days we can calculate a total annual heating demand for this property at approx 46,200KWH.

Taking into account the figures released in the draft report whereby the government has proposed a tariff of 7pence per KWH for ground source heat pumps, this would mean that the owner of the above mentioned dwelling could be eligible to receive payments of as much as £3,234 per year until the overall capital cost of the heat pump system has been covered.

Bearing in mind that the client shall also benefit from the reduced running costs available via there renewable heating system we feel that the RHI offers a magnificent incentive for everyone, both for the new build and retrofit market.
