The first in our meet the team series we are chatting to Head of Commercial – Danny Savage!

How long have you worked with AH?

I have been with the team for two months – the time has flown by. The company were very supportive in my transition as a new member of the team, which made me feel at home very quickly.

What qualifications do you have?

I completed my degree in Quantity Surveying & Commercial Management at University of Ulster and since then have progressed from Graduate QS to my current role.

Tell me about a typical day?

Every day is busy, and no day is the same!

A typical day could include internal and external high level project meetings, contract reviews with our in-house solicitor, monitoring company aims and projections, etc.

In terms of the internal project meetings, it is one of the things I do appreciate about Alternative Heat’s structure/vision. Each department is involved to make for easy collaboration between departments on a project, allowing for smooth delivery of the projects.

Part of my role is also to monitor the department’s processes and workflow set ups, and that involves liaising with our team of Quantity Surveyors throughout the day. We are in a period of high growth so some of my time is also spent reviewing applicants and meeting potential candidates. I know firsthand the opportunities for anyone joining Alternative Heat and it is nice to be chatting to people potentially taking their first career step with us.

What is the best thing about your job?

From a personal point of view, the best thing about my job is working with the strong Commercial Team. It is a great team to be part of and is growing from strength to strength. I couldn’t answer this question without mentioning the office. It is a state-of-the-art facility and really is a great environment to work in.

From a company point of view, my job at Alternative Heat is made easier by the professional nature of each department. No stone is left unturned in our Design, Pre-Construction, Operations or Accounts teams via the processes they have in place, which allows for a good working relationship with the Commercial Department.

What is the most exciting project you have worked on?

At Alternative Heat we work on a wide range of projects, from Underfloor Heating to large scale Data Centres. We are also heavily involved in Decarbonisation projects, so to be honest it is hard to pick just one!

With the Data Centres and Decarb projects they are great sides of the industry for any Quantity Surveyor to be working in, given the innovative nature of both. Within the Decarb projects we act as Main Contractor on a large portion of these, which gives the QS’s in our Team involvement in – Mechanical, Electrical, Civils and Construction elements of the project.

Why should anyone consider a career with Alternative Heat?

Alternative Heat is a company going from strength to strength. Our order book is growing rapidly, and we are continuing to work alongside industry leading customers. There are genuine opportunities for growth within the company and we are keen to add to our Commercial Department, to supplement an increasing order book. It is a fast-paced company but a great environment for development.
